I have decided to do a community project by taking action to raise awareness about sexual assault. I plan to interview my aunt Marcea about her experience with sexual assault. I'm also contemplating the idea of surveying a class to see if they know anyone who has experienced it. 1 in 3 girls experience some type of sexual violence in their lifetime. I am hoping to record accounts of other women's experiences with this issue.
I am personally interested in this topic because it is relevant to this time in my life and within the next year, I will be going to college.
That's a really interesting topic, and something all girls our age should take into account. I've read a lot of articles about how college campuses deny that any report of sexual harassment or violence has taken place because they don't want their school to be frowned upon. It's sad how often things like this happen. Good luck in your research!

ReplyDeleteThis is a good topic to research. You could also look into people's lives after these traumatic events.

ReplyDeleteI love that you chose this topic because it's become such a serious issue. A lot of sexual assault goes unreported and of those that are reported less than 1/3 actually become real criminal cases. It's terrible that those are the statistics. I think people, especially girls, should be more aware of sexual violence so go you for choosing this topic.

ReplyDeleteI like this topic. Awareness should be raised about it. I thought about doing a topic related to this as well. The topic I thought about doing was how the pornography industry allows room for sexual abuse. It is something that is accepted widely in America, but is also huge source of sexual assault. ReplyDeleteClearly sexual assault is a huge global issue. I'd be interested in seeing how you hope to get accurate survey results, when so many people are very reluctant to admit having been subject to abuse, even when anonymous.
ReplyDeleteI just debated a topic that addressed sexual assault and the cases are extremely high in places such as Africa.
ReplyDeleteThis topic can be compared at so many levels, from the national standards of sexual assault, too the local statistics of sexual assault so that could be interesting to look at.
